Common Plumbing Concerns
How often should I have my drains cleaned?
Instead of frequent cleaning, we recommend using an enzyme-based cleaner in your sink regularly to maintain optimal pipe condition. These effective cleaners are readily available at local retail shops or online retailers. Simply follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for use to prevent grease buildup and keep your plumbing flowing smoothly.
What causes low water pressure in my home?
Low water pressure can be caused by several factors, including:
- Mineral buildup in galvanized pipes or fixtures
- Leaks in your plumbing system
- Problems with the city water supply
- Failed valves
- Failing pressure-reducing valve. Our technicians can diagnose the specific cause and recommend appropriate solutions.
How long do water heaters typically last?
Traditional tank water heaters typically last 8-15 years with proper maintenance. The electric one lasts a bit longer. Flushing the tank annually may help extend the lifespan of your water heater. We do have good-quality water in this area and your tank should last you a long time without frequent flushing.
What regular plumbing maintenance should homeowners perform?
- Check visible pipes periodically for leaks or corrosion
- Test water pressure annually
- Avoid putting grease, coffee grounds, and fibrous foods down drains
- Know the location of your main water shut-off valve
How can I prevent frozen pipes during winter?
- Insulate exposed pipes in unheated areas like garages, basements, and crawl spaces
- During extreme cold, let faucets drip slightly
- Keep cabinet doors open under sinks to allow warm air circulation
- Maintain consistent home heating, even when away
- Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses before freezing temperatures.
